Jessica Alba was only 19 when Titanic director James Cameron handpicked her for his hit drama series Dark Angel. Since then, the 27-year-old actress has become a fully-fledged movie star thanks to films such as; Fantastic Four, Sin City, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Sin City, Good Luck Chuck and the recent horror hit The Eye. But her up-coming Mike Myers comedy The Love Guru, due for release in June, isn’t the only new production in her life. The radiant star, sipping peppermint iced tea at a Beverly Hills hotel, tells us all about her first child with fiancé Cash Warren, also due that month.

How are you feeling?

At the end of the day I am so tired I can’t function or speak and my eyes glaze over but this pregnancy has seriously mellowed me out, which is nice. I’ve been going, going, going for so long, so it feels nice not to take things so seriously and be too caught up and just enjoy my friends and family.

Are you having any cravings or aversions?

I suddenly love citrus stuff, oranges and lemonade, and I didn’t really care for any of it before. But I can’t deal with things that are too pungent. I used to love truffles and now I can’t handle them. I also have a hard time eating a big steak.

How is the nesting going?

We had to get a baby-friendly house because my home was four stories with a big spiral staircase and so not a baby house! So it’s a big project with painting and decorating and chandeliers. I just want it to be done before the baby arrives!

What kind of exercise routine have you adopted?

I started prenatal yoga. I hear it helps to make the labor easier. I was working out before pregnancy, running and doing weights and yoga was incorporated into my workouts, but not as much then. I also take a lot of hikes with my girlfriends.

What about your diet?

I was never on a diet before so I just eat more fruit than I used to, that’s the big thing. I enjoy cooking and food that is fresh versus out of the can but I’ve always had that mentality about food.
.
What kind of mother do you think you’ll be?

I don’t want to be my child’s friend; I want to be a mom. But I do want my child to come to me when they have problems and have to talk to someone so it’s going to be about treading that line.

Are you getting tips from experts?

I watch the TV show Supernanny with Jo Frost and it is so obvious of course when you are not in the situation yourself to go, ‘the kid is jacked on sugar all day long and you are arguing with them? Send them to a time-out chair or to their room!’ But because they never established those rules, the kids are doing anything they want and I look at that closely.

How do you think Cash will be as a father?

We are pretty similar in our views on parenting. But where I really don’t want my kids eating McDonalds, Cash will probably be the kind of dad who’ll sneak off and get McDonalds for them and tell them not to tell mom!

Did you always want to be a young mother?

I don’t think I’m that young compared to my family. I think I’m the perfect age; young enough to be a young mom but I’m old enough to be prepared and totally ready for it. My parents were 19 when they had me and that is different than being 27. And I’ve lived in many places and lived many different lives so I’m excited and happy to be a mom right now.

What are your plans for the delivery?

I want to spend as much of my labor as possible at home, and I’m taking a hypnobirthing class. It’s a breathing and relaxation technique that allows you to, instead of going through your contractions and then going into panic mode and tightening up, it’s about understanding that your body is going to do it naturally and if you are calm and relaxed your body will just open up and do what it has to do.

What can you tell us about your next film, The Love Guru, with Mike Myers?

Mike is a fan of Deepak Chopra and more Eastern thinkers so he wrote this script combining his two favorite things, Eastern philosophy and hockey. I play the owner of a hockey team that is cursed and I hire the love guru to help fix the love life of my star hockey player. It’s all about loving yourself and not allowing other people’s negativity to affect you - yet it’s also mixed with that crazy Austen Powers comedy he gets away with!
